Ethics

Public officials and administrators must comply with Washington state ethics laws as well as numerous local ordinances, policies and procedures. In addition to these requirements, the actions of officials and administrators are highly scrutinized; thus, it is important to avoid even the appearance of impropriety.

As part of our Municipal Law practice, we advise public entity and agency clients on a wide range of issues related to ethics laws and related requirements, including assisting with policies and procedures to address potential conflicts of interest.

We counsel elected officials, board and committee members, employees, and others regarding ethics issues that may arise in connection with their official duties and assist with internal investigations. We additionally provide training on ethics matters to elected officials, board and committee members, staff, and hearing examiners and administrative law judges.
