Celebration of Recent State Legislation Honoring Native Americans

Pacifica Law Group is proud to commend and celebrate the following: enactment of State legislation designating the late Indigenous (Nisqually) civil rights leader and prominent environmental steward and activist Billy Frank, Jr. as one of Washington’s two honorees represented in Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol; enactment of State legislation barring the use of Native American names or symbols as public school mascots (without the permission of nearby tribes); and the appointment of Rena Priest, Lummi Nation, as the first Native American to be named as the State’s poet laureate.
